Data centres and electronics manufacturing facilities require flooring that controls electrostatic discharge (ESD) to protect sensitive equipment, servers, and electronic components from damage. Standard resin floors are not suitable — a specifically designed ESD or conductive system is required to dissipate static charges safely to earth.
ESD resin systems are installed with a copper earthing grid embedded in the floor, providing a controlled path to earth that prevents the build-up of static charges. The system must be specified to the correct resistance range for the application and regularly tested to verify performance.
Common Challenges
- Electrostatic discharge risk to sensitive servers and electronic equipment
- Specifying the correct resistance range for the application
- Seamless, non-porous surfaces for controlled environments
- Raised access floor compatibility in server room environments
- Installation in live data centre environments with minimal disruption
- Ongoing testing and verification of ESD performance
